Work has begun on the first stage of the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct (MHKP) which will include aged care beds, affordable housing and Western Australia’s first Medihotel.
“Medihotel is a specialist hotel designed to support patients discharged from hospital but who are still recovering, and will provide them with a comfortable, innovative and family friendly environment in which to receive ongoing care.” Minister for Health Roger Cook said.
“It’s a simple solution to free up expensive hospital beds so more patients can be treated and wait lists shortened.”
9.6-ha site adjacent to Fiona Stanley Hospital will be developed in 2 stages over 10 to 15 years to become a major hub delivering jobs, new homes, and leading health and research facilities.
Fini Group’s plans for the first stage of the MHKP include
- 175 apartments,
- 150-bed aged care facility,
- 6,480 sqm super medical clinic,
- Western Australia’s first Medihotel,
- Short-stay accommodation,
- 6,080 sqm of commercial, retail and amenity space.
“Start of site works on the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct marks an exciting milestone in the development of what will be a significant new hub for homes and jobs in WA.” Minister for Planning Rita Saffioti said.
It is envisaged the broader Murdoch Activity Centre will eventually be home to 35,000 jobs, 22,000 residents and up to 44,000 students.
Completion of Stage 1 civil works is anticipated in mid-2018, while the Medihotel facility is expected to open its doors in 2021.
