Safety Boost For Waterhouse Road

Hodgman Government is committed to providing the infrastructure upgrades our State needs to improve safety and travel times, and this week work has begun to seal the final 14.5 km section of Waterhouse Road.

Two-year project forms part of the Government’s State Road Upgrades – Northern Region election policy commitment and will deliver a sealed road surface from Tomahawk to Gladstone, Minister for Infrastructure Jeremy Rockliff said.

As the North-East becomes more popular with visitors Waterhouse Road is carrying increasing visitor traffic, particularly in the summer months. It is also a key route for agricultural and forestry industries in the region.

Providing a consistent, all weather road surface will improve safety for the mix of traffic on Waterhouse Road, as well as improving the travelling experience for all road users.

First stage of works, starting at Banca Road at Tomahawk is now underway and due to be completed in April this year. The final stage is due to start next year and will extend the sealed surface through to Gladstone.

Usual hours of work will be between 7:00 am-5:00 pm from Monday-Friday, with occasional Saturday work.

There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the safety of workers and road users. Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place during work hours.

Road users are asked to allow extra time when travelling through the area, and to follow all directions given by traffic controllers.
