Tasmania Acting Premier Jeremy Rockliff
Congratulations Wild Oats XI
Victor P Taffa
Acting Premier Jeremy Rockliff has Congratulated Wild Oats XI and skipper Mark Richards on taking line honours in the 74nd Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race this morning and a record 9th title.
This is notwithstanding the Court Room challenge to Wild Oats XI by the Race Committee of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
International Jury at Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania today, found that the protest was invalid and so Wild Oats XI retains her line honours crown.
This world class event always produces amazing stories and spectacular scenes and this year was no exception with four supermaxis battling it out to the finish in the Derwent River with Wild Oats XI finally prevailing.
Sydney to Hobart beams stunning images of our State around the world and brings many visitors here to enjoy classic Tasmanian hospitality, fantastic events and the chance to experience all we have to offer.
There is still a lot of serious sailing to come as yachts battle for the prestigious Tattersalls Cup for overall handicap title, and the Melbourne-Hobart and Launceston-Hobart races.
“Once again, congratulations the crew and connections of Wild Oats XI on their record 9th title, condolences to the yachts and crews who’ve had to retire, and safe passage to those still at sea.” Acting Premier Rockliff said.
