RAIL REVIVAL: GEELONG, BALLARAT AND BENDIGO
Victor P Taffa
A $25 Million Grovedale Railway Station in Geelong will also be built under the Coalition.
The Station will be built near Rossack Drive and Heyers Road to enable access from the Surf Coast Highway and Torquay and Geelong’s fast-expanding Southern Suburbs including Armstrong Creek.
The New Station will feature:
• A fully-enclosed, airconditioned and heated Waiting Room;
• A Carpark for at least 200 Cars;
• Staffing from first to last Train;
• A V/Line booking office;
• Facilities that is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.
The Coalition will work with V/Line to maximise the number of Geelong, South Geelong or Marshall and Warrnambool Line Trains that will stop at Grovedale.
RAIL REVIVAL: GEELONG, BALLARAT AND BENDIGO
The Coalition will plan for the return of passenger trains between Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo on a cross-country rail route via Meredith, Maryborough and Castlemaine.
Under John Brumby, Victoria’s second, third and fourth largest cities remain without direct passenger train links, with V/Line passengers forced to travel via Melbourne or its suburbs or via V/Line cross-country coaches.
This is unacceptable when the combined population of Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Geelong and Maryborough is now more than 400,000.
The Coalition will provide $2 Million for a Planning Study to commence the linking of the Centres.
This will require the Gheringhap to Ballarat line via Meredith to be upgraded for Passenger trains and the re-opening of the closed Moolort (near Maryborough) to Maldon Junction (near Castlemaine) Line closed by Labor.
Other Rail Services closed by Labor have been V/Line services between Seymour and Wodonga.
