The Territory Government will establish a new Central Australia Development Office in Alice Springs as part of its campaign to bring investment to the North.
Chief Minister Adam Giles made the announcement at the Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) Conference in Alice Springs today.
“Regional development is a priority for my Government and our new Central Australian Development Office will ensure Alice Springs is actively involved in our Northern Australia Development agenda.”
“The Alice Springs facility will house senior officers of the Northern Territory Government, provide office accommodation for visiting industry associations and provide a hub for investors interested in Central Australia and the rest of the Territory.” Mr. Giles said.
“It’s a model that’s been hugely successful in our Darwin Northern Australia Development Office and I’m pleased to be extending it to Alice Springs.”
“By developing the north we can realise our full economic potential and open up vast areas of the Territory to new business opportunities and create jobs for our children.” Mr. Giles said.
“The new Office is exactly the kind of inclusive and strategic regional initiative the 250 delegates at the SEGRA Conference have been talking about.”
“This conference is a great opportunity for all sectors of the Australian community to explore issues affecting regional, rural and remote Australia and an opportunity to discuss the best ways of securing Australia’s future prosperity.” Mr. Giles said.
The Northern Territory Government committed $10,000 from the Regional Economic Development Fund to support the hosting of the conference in Alice Springs.
Statehood
Economic development of The Northern Territory will accelerate when Statehood is granted.
As the 7th State of the Commonwealth of Australia, the State of Northern Australia will be in a much stronger position to grow its economy as State revenues are retained by the State and not handed over to the Commonwealth.
Mining Royalties are also retained by the State and not the Commonwealth. These revenues measures allow a State that is closer to the local economy to grow employment.
