3,500 New Jobs In Queensland

More than 100 Queenslanders a day found work in January, with a total of 3,500 jobs created in Queensland last month, according to ABS Labour Force Data released today.

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the additional jobs took the total number of jobs created under the Palaszczuk Government to more than 180,000.

“We are building an economy that works for everyone and are 100% focused on creating more jobs for our growing population.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

“We’re taking action across the state to boost our economy and ensure that it’s Queenslanders who benefit.”

“Our work is paying off with more than 6 times the number of jobs created by Labor than by the Newman Government.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

“Our trend unemployment rate is stable at 6.1%, from a downwardly revised December figure.”

“Unemployment rate today is significantly lower than the one we inherited from the LNP (6.6% off a 6.7% high), but we know there is more work to do.”

“Our $46.3 Billion infrastructure program is creating 38,000 jobs this year alone 25,000 of those are in regional Queensland.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

“These are tangible projects that will deliver more jobs, better infrastructure and affordable housing for Queenslanders.”

“We are setting up our workforce for the future through Skilling Queenslanders for Work, free TAFE, a payroll tax rebate for businesses that take on apprentices and requiring at least 15% of the workforce on Government projects to be apprentices or trainees.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman welcomed the additional 3,500 jobs created last month.

“This is great news for Queensland and is because of our investment in job creating initiatives like Back to Work and Skilling Queenslanders for Work.” Minister Fentiman said.

“We are investing in the future of jobs for Queensland with free TAFE and supporting our small businesses to start, grow and be able to employ more Queenslanders.”
