Peak Hill To Benefit From NSW Government Funding To Showcase The Region

Victor P Taffa

Member for Orange Andrew Gee today announced that Parkes Shire Council would receive $120,000 under the New South Wales (NSW) Government’s 2015-16 Regional Visitor Economy Fund.

Mr. Gee said the funding will go towards the Peak Hill Gold Mine Visitor Experience Improvement Program, which will build destination appeal and bring more visitors to the region.

“This is fantastic news for the Peak Hill community as we continue to work tirelessly to ensure this beautiful region is showcased to thousands of visitors each year.” Mr. Gee said.

“The project will consist of the construction of a new site specific feature shelter with integrated signage, maps and seating. The Committee will also work with the Peak Hill Local Aboriginal Land Council to develop experiences at the mine to highlight their cultural connection to the site.”

“Tourism is a vital input to our regional visitor economy and this NSW Government funding demonstrates a commitment to the tourism businesses in our region to ensure our community benefits from projects such as this.” Mr. Gee said.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said the Regional Visitor Economy Fund provides support for marketing and product development projects aimed at increasing overnight visitation to the regions, helping to grow local economies across Regional NSW.

“These winning projects will not only go towards upgrading and improving business services, but will provide a platform for NSW regional tourism operators to promote their wonderful products and experiences to domestic and international visitors.” Mr. Ayres said.

The Peak Hill Gold Mine is one of only very few in the state that have been granted a special tourism permit by the Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, to allow for visitors on a mine site.

The Regional Visitor Economy Fund is managed and administered by the State’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW which provides investment into the regional visitor economy on a matched dollar-for-dollar basis.
