Northern Territory Government is investing in festivals and events across the Territory.

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss, today announced more than $467,000 through the first round of 2018/19 Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) Funding for 14 events and festivals.

“This funding will support a wide range of festivals and events, deliver economic and social benefits and create jobs.” Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss said.

“Territory hosts some of Australia’s most iconic festivals and events.”

Fund aims to create new sustainable events that drive visitation to the Territory, deliver economic and social benefits and create jobs.

Funding supports new and develops existing events to engage the local community, attract visitors and showcase the Northern Territory.

A diverse range of festivals and events across the Territory encompassing sport, music, military commemorations, literature and Indigenous culture are being supported through this funding round.

“This funding enables us to develop a comprehensive event master plan and to prepare for the 50th Tiwi Islands Football League Grand Final in 2020. The Tiwi Grand Final Day and Art Sale is an iconic can’t miss event on the Territory calendar and we hope to attract visitors from across Australia to celebrate 50 years.” Tiwi Islands Regional Council Mayor Gawin Tipiloura said.

“Football on the Tiwi Islands is more than just a game, it’s something the whole community gets behind and the 50th grand final will be an event not to be missed.”

For the first time, 2 distinct funding streams were offered:

  • Event Development Funding-supports innovative changes and additions to event programs that drive visitation
  • Strategic Development Funding-supports events to build capability, sustainability and ensure a safe event environment.

Second round of NTMEC event funding will open on October 30, and close on November 30, for events held March 2019 – March 2020.
