Building Approvals Continue To Skyrocket In Tasmania

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today confirmed that the extraordinary momentum in Tasmania’s building and construction sector is continuing, Acting Minister for Building and Construction Roger Jaensch said.
“Latest data from the ABS shows that the number of dwelling approvals in Tasmania for the November 2018 quarter was 14 % above the level of a year ago, in contrast to double-digit declines in most other jurisdictions and nationally.”
Total value of building work approved in Tasmania also increased by 39 % over the year to November 2018.
This strong annual growth in the value of building approvals was felt across both the residential and non-residential sectors (up 19.4 % and 68.6 % respectively).
Private sector is leading the charge, recording a 50 % increase in the value of building jobs approved over the past year.
“Importantly, the results equate to an average of 256 dwelling approvals per month in Tasmania over the past year, which is over 50 % higher than the average number of monthly approvals in the last year of the Labor-Green Government.” Acting Minister for Building and Construction Roger Jaensch said.
“In addition to the strong growth recorded in trend terms for November 2018, Tasmania recorded the highest number of monthly approvals in a decade with 369 approvals.”
Hodgman Government will continue to support growth in the building and construction industry, because we understand it means more jobs and opportunities for Tasmanians.
