Construction Starts At Katanning Health Service

• Hospital redevelopment is part of the State Government’s Southern Inland Health Initiative

Work has begun on the $32 Million redevelopment of the Katanning Health Service, which will include a new emergency department.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the Katanning Health Service redevelopment, expected to be completed in mid-2018, would deliver high-quality services and care for patients living in the region.

“This project will create a new emergency department, medical imaging department and a new outpatient care facility.” Dr. Hames said.

“Surgical services and the associated sterilising department will be refurbished, and a new laundry and morgue will be built.”

Under the Southern Inland Health Initiative, major upgrades have already been completed at Kojonoup, Gnowangerup and Tambellup.

“All of these works have enabled people living in these regions to access improved services and care closer to their homes, and we expect the Katanning redevelopment will also be welcomed and strongly supported by the local community.” Dr. Hames said.

The redevelopment is part of the $500 Million Southern Inland Health Initiative made possible by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program. The $300 Million capital works program will improve health services in 37 towns across the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Mid-West and South-West regions.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said investment in health infrastructure was fundamental to the sustainability of regional Western Australia.

“The redeveloped Katanning Health Service will meet the changing needs of its local community.” Mr. Redman said.

“Royalties for Regions continue to play a major role in enhancing the quality of life for people living in regional areas through access to improved services and infrastructure.”

BGC Constructions was awarded the tender for forward works for the Katanning Health Service redevelopment. The first stage involves service relocations, and access to Kerry Lodge and the Mental and Aboriginal Health building will be via Kobeelya Avenue during this time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The next stage involves establishing the main building compound, demolishing the current laundry and morgue and bulk earthworks.

The existing hospital will continue to service the community during construction and access to the hospital will continue to be through the main entrance.
