WA Welcomes New Australian Citizens

Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister John Castrilli today called on West Australians to give consideration to the values we share as Australians and take the opportunity to welcome new citizens to our culturally diverse State.

Mr. Castrilli said Australia Day was a wonderful time of year to celebrate our democratic values, equality, freedom of speech and religion.

“Tomorrow, 2,100 people from 91 countries will take part in 60 ceremonies throughout Western Australia.” Mr. Castrilli said.

The Minister said Australia Day was a special occasion for all Australians, especially for those people from other countries who are becoming Australian citizens.

“Through citizenship and affirmation ceremonies, we reflect on the freedoms, responsibilities and privileges that go hand in hand with what it means to be Australian.” Mr. Castrilli said.

“Western Australia is home to a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, and I welcome those people who will become Australian citizens at local government ceremonies around the State tomorrow.”

Mr. Castrilli said cultural diversity was one of this State’s greatest strengths.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Almost one-third of Australian citizens in WA were born overseas and the new citizens come from all over the world including European countries, African nations, Asia, the United States of America and New Zealand.” the Minister said.

“I encourage West Australians to get involved in Australia Day activities and welcome our new Australian citizens to this very special State.”
