Work Well Underway On Griffith Base Hospital Redevelopment

$224 Million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment has reached another milestone.

Announcement that Project Coordination (Australia) Pty Ltd, a privately-owned Australian construction and management firm, has been appointed as the builders for Stage 1 construction.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional New South Wales John Barilaro joined Member for Murray Austin Evans to conduct a sod turn to mark the start of construction.

“Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment is meeting its milestones. The project is progressing in two streams, the continuation of Stage 1 construction and the progression of the Stage 2 concept design.” Deputy Premier Barilaro said.

“Concept planning for Stage 2 is currently being developed in consultation with hospital staff.”

“Griffith will soon have the state-of-the-art health services and facilities the region deserves.” Deputy Premier Barilaro said.

Stage 1 work includes the construction of the new Ambulatory Care Hub, which will provide increased oncology services and extensions to Critical Care and general in-patient areas. The work is expected to be completed in 2020.

Mr. Evans said this is an exciting step in the redevelopment of Griffith Base Hospital.

“This allows us to determine where health services and other support services should be located in the redevelopment to ensure the upgraded hospital operates as efficiently as possible to provide the best care to patients.” Mr. Evans said.

“Building works are scheduled to really kick-off in the next month once Project Coordination puts the finishing touches on its design plans.”

Planning for the redevelopment, including staff and community consultation, will continue throughout 2019.

• In June 2017 the New South Wales Government committed $35 Million towards Stage 1 of the Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment.
• In December 2018, the New South Wales Government announced a further $189 Million towards Stage 2 of the Griffith Hospital Redevelopment.
