Renewed Push To Reduce Daylight Saving By One Month

Victor P Taffa

Member for Orange Andrew Gee said that he was expecting a Private Members Bill to be introduced into the Upper House of the New South Wales (NSW) Parliament to shorten daylight saving by one month when Parliament resumes for the winter session next month.

Mr. Gee said the move comes after many country people had complained that daylight saving was too long. If successful, the legislation would bring the end of daylight saving forward one month, from the first Sunday in April to the first Sunday in March each year.

“This is a constant source of irritation to people in Central Western NSW and they’re tired of inaction.” Mr. Gee said.

“It is one of the hot topics of debate that I am often asked about as I travel through our country communities.”

“People want to see some legislation on the issue.” Mr. Gee said.

Mr. Gee said if the legislation is not introduced through the NSW Upper House, he and his colleague, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall, would introduce it through the Lower House as a Private Members Bill.

“Mr. Marshall and I will be seeking cross party support on the issue and we’re hoping that Liberal, Labor and other cross bench members will get behind the push.” Mr. Gee said.

Daylight Saving Reduction

Daylight Saving is a good measure however it is too long and a reduction by one month will be a welcome adjustment in Sydney and throughout New South Wales.
