Tasmanians Aged 50-64 Years To Access The NDIS From 1 January 2019

From Tuesday (1 January, 2019), Tasmanians aged 50 to 64 years will be able to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Minister for Disability Services and Community Development Jacquie Petrusma said.

This means the NDIS will now be available to help Tasmanians with disability aged 0 to 64 years old to participate more in the broader community, giving them, their families and care givers greater choice and control of their care supports.

NDIS will greatly improve these people’s lives, with around 10,600 Tasmanians expected to be in the NDIS by June 30, 2019.

Hodgman Government is committed to working in close partnership with people with disability, their families, carers, disability providers and the wider community, to build a more equitable, inclusive and accessible state that empowers all Tasmanians.

“We are investing $900 Million over the forward estimates for disability services and support, including $879 Million to fund the NDIS.” Minister Petrusma said.

“What we are doing is working as NDIS participant satisfaction continues to be high with the latest quarterly data for the NDIS showing that 93 % of participants now rate their experience as ‘very good’ or ‘good’.”

As of September 30, 2018, there are 1,245 approved service providers in Tasmania.

Existing Commonwealth and state-based services and supports will also continue until all eligible people commence in the NDIS over the final 6 months of transition.
