Stimulus Grants To Boost Our Art And Cultural Sectors

Northern Territory Government continues to invest in our regions, boosting economic growth across the Territory’s art and cultural sectors and creating jobs in regional areas.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss today announced the final successful funding recipients as part of Round 2 of the $2 Million Arts Trail Regional Stimulus Grant program.

“Territory’s rich art and culture is a major drawcard for national and international tourists and a key economic driver.” Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss said.

“We are investing $106 Million to build a nationally significant Arts Trail throughout the Territory to support and grow our arts and cultural industry and provide new and approved attractions for national and international visitors.”

8 selected projects will share in $660,801 worth of grants to fund upgrades to arts and cultural facilities in key areas of the Northern Territory, providing increased focus and facilities to better showcase arts and culture for tourism and regional economic development.

Through the grant program, regional and remote art centres, art galleries, museums, libraries and keeping places can apply for funding of between $10,000 and $100,000 to support infrastructure projects that would help drive visitation to key sites as part of the Labor Government’s new Arts Trail.

8 projects receiving Round 2 funding include:

• Watch This Space received $65,560 in funding to enhance gallery functionality and presentation to both artists and visitors including upgrades to kitchen and bathroom, air-conditioning and lighting.
• Djilpin Arts Aboriginal Corporation received $88,712 in funding to enhance landscaping and amenities at the Beswick Cultural Precinct.
• Northern Centre for Contemporary Art received $6,950 in funding for occupational health and safety upgrades.
• lkuntji Artists Aboriginal Corporation received $100,000 in funding to install new septic, water pump and tank and air-conditioning.
• Milingimbi Art and Culture Aboriginal Corporation received $100,000 in funding to upgrade the verandah to address safety issues.
• National Pioneer Women’s Hall of Fame Inc. received $99,839 in funding to enhance the entrance point for visitors with landscaping and interpretative signage.
• Ngukurr Arts Aboriginal Corporation received $100,000 in funding to accommodation for cultural tourists.
• Tiwi Design Aboriginal Corporation received $99,740 in funding for infrastructure upgrades at the Art Centre.

These projects are in addition to the 6 previous announced in October.
