An Hour with SABA Saliba

Victor P Taffa

SABA Saliba the Flamboyant Provocative Electro Pop Art Performer spent an hour with Editor Victor P Taffa in her humble abode that is surrounded by images, scenes and emotions in the style and creativity of SABA.

Flamboyant Provocative Electro Pop Art has a number of strands to it. Flamboyancy is in relation to lots of colour which lifts your emotions to another place. Provocative in the sense of thought provoking and challenging people’s thinking in a progressive way. Evolving into a new state of mind. As SABA compared it to “A bit like the yellow brick road. To follow your dreams.”

SABA was born in Sydney from a Lebanese Family. SABA has an older brother and sister. SABA had a twin who “Didn’t make it. Just like Elvis Presley. I feel a bit of synergy there.” SABA would like to perform in the U.S. and over the last few years has performed at venues like ARQ, Stonewall, The Imperial and The Columbian in Sydney.

“Blow Me Away” will be released as a single in 6-8 weeks to be followed by “Feeling Feminine.” Feeling Feminine reflects who you are and will become the name for the second Album.

SABA has written music with Ben Charters for just on a year and produced 14 songs. SABA and Ben have known each other for the last 3 years and met at a BBQ. After talking for about an hour on music they both realised that they had a similar creative synergy.

SABA has been writing since leaving school while having a natural affinity writing words, notes, feelings and poetry.

Give Me All That You Are is a quote that SABA jotted down upon hearing it from a friend. The quote struck a chord with SABA. “Allowing you to be yourself. Like the gates are open. Letting down your guard.”

SABA believes that craftwork has made synthesisers marketable particularly from Europe and Germany. Dance Music Acts tend to go to Europe after performing in Sydney.

SABA admires ABBA. “Very influential for Pop Music. It was fun music and music that you could dance to.” SABA like the music coming out of Europe such as Le Rouge. As a performer SABA wants to be approachable and responsive to all people and age groups.

  • Music is something for the Feet-A Groove to Dance to.
  • Music is something for the Heart-That Triggers Emotions.
  • Music is something for the Mind and Voice to sing along to.
  • Music is something for the Rhythm of Your Body and Soul.

“The creation of these feelings makes for an interesting song. The message is about freedom, be true to yourself whether you are Gay, Bi or Straight. It is being anti-repressed.” SABA said.

“Everyone has both masculinity and femininity in them. You are who you are. It is Liberation and Freedom of your identity. People have choices in life and people also place restrictions on themselves.”

SABA also discussed some other matters that affect Sydney. Cutting back Pub/Club Trading Hours is not necessarily the answer. “Person responsibility is a large part of the answer. We’ve done the Lock Out. Further restricting Trading Hours is not the answer.”

SABA also thought that “Energy and Money should be put into Hospitals and Railway Lines. We are restricting peoples access to places like Bondi Beach. That is why we need a Railway to Bondi Beach.”

SABA went onto say that “People live in a cocoon. People should expand and think big. Many people won’t even travel across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.”

SABA met someone recently and that he spoke of attitudes that were racist, homophobic and supportive of the Klu Klux Klan. SABA felt that hatred is taught and reinforced through society.

Further SABA said that “People are afraid to connect. Depression is the biggest killer. Building the Railway Lines is the answer. Railway Lines provides connectivity in Society and reduces Depression.”

SABA will be producing Albums soon and a YouTube will appear in The Southern Thunderer.
