Queensland Minister for Natural Resources Anthony Lynham
Queensland Asks The Question On North Queensland Dams
Victor P Taffa
Queensland Minister for Natural Resources Anthony Lynham has sought detailed information from the Federal Coalition about its dam plans for North Queensland.
“Let’s be clear: We are always keen to see Federal money heading for Queensland.” Dr. Lynham said.
“We are just not sure what is the next step, or what is expected of any Queensland government or statutory bodies.”
“Palaszczuk Government has already funded an initial investigation into the Hughenden Irrigation Project with the Flinders Shire Council and an initial business case of the $5.35 Billion Hells Gate project has identified significant challenges.” Dr. Lynham said.
“Usually, detailed business cases are conducted, sometimes by independent bodies like Building Queensland, before governments commit to major, long-term infrastructure like dams.”
“Today I have written to Federal Minister for Water Resources David Littleproud asking for any further information.” Dr. Lynham said.
Particularly on:
- Nature or scope of these projects,
- Process to advance these projects, including detailed business cases and appropriate environmental assessments,
- Who will operate these assets.
