State Government Cabinet Ministers will head to the Great Southern on Sunday to take part in the Katanning Regional Cabinet.

Sport and Recreation Minister and Wagin MLA Terry Waldron will host the event which will involve the Premier and other ministers attending a range of functions over two days.

Premier Colin Barnett said the decision to hold regional cabinet in Katanning highlighted the importance of the Great Southern region.

On Monday morning, the Shire of Katanning will deliver a presentation of local issues to Cabinet, followed by a formal Cabinet meeting.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for the Cabinet to learn more about the issues that matter most to the people of Katanning and the wider Great Southern region.” Premier Barnett said.

Mr. Waldron said a key feature of Cabinet’s visit would be Meet the Minister, to be held on Sunday afternoon, when local people will be able to discuss issues directly with ministers.

“Having Cabinet meet in Katanning provides an opportunity to not only showcase the region but also to have direct contact between the community and the ministers.” Mr. Waldron said.

“This Government has been driving a range of initiatives that recognise the importance of this region, but there is always more that can be done.”

“A regional Cabinet meeting is one of the best ways of bringing the State Government face to face with people and hearing those ideas.” Mr. Waldron said.
