Lake Charlegrark Upgrades To Attract More Visitors

Andrews Government today announced it will contribute $200,000 towards upgrades at Lake Charlegrark to improve the popular West Wimmera destination for locals, tourists and visitors.

“Lake Charlegrark is one of the West Wimmera’s most popular tourism hotspots. From camping, canoeing, water skiing and fishing there is something for everyone.” Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford said.

“Lake Charlegrark’s Country Music Marathon is well known across the region and the improved infrastructure will help the event continue to raise funds for local charities while building community spirit across the Wimmera.”

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford announced the upgrades of Lake Charlegrark in Parliament today, which include

• Construction of an all-ability amenities block with showers,
• Installation of 3 phase power, new barbecues and seating,
• Repairs to the jetty,
• Toilets and a laundry.

Upgraded facilities are expected to increase in visitors by more than 6,000 people over 10 years, which will create 6 new full-time jobs.

Project will also benefit a number of events held at the lake, including the well renowned Lake Charlegrark Country Music Marathon which held its 27th event last weekend, attracting thousands of visitors.

West Wimmera Shire fast tracked the delivery of the power upgrades so the festival could proceed unaffected, and the next stage of the project involves demolishing the old amenities block.

Project is forecast to increase Gross Regional Product by $850,000, which will create significant opportunities in a region with a population of around 4,000 people.

Lake’s central position within the shire makes it a popular meeting point for residents and the project will improve the space for socialising and physical activity, which contributes to community wellbeing.

West Wimmera Shire is delivering the $789,000 project with funding support from a range of community groups and the Federal Government.

Right across the state, the Andrews Government’s $500 Million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund is supporting initiatives that make regional Victoria a better place to live, work and visit.
