Tasmania Shadow Minister for Mining Adam Brooks
World Heritage Lockup To Further Restrict Mining

New maps tabled in the Legislative Council inquiry reveal that the proposed World Heritage listing under the job-destroying Forest Deal will further restrict mining, Shadow Minister for Mining Adam Brooks said.
“Yesterday maps were tabled showing that mining will be prohibited in one third of the 500,000 hectares lock-up, this previously unseen World Heritage map shows it’ll actually be much worse.” Mr. Brooks said.
“The World Heritage lock-up will over-ride the proposed state-based reserve levels, and will prohibit mining in areas with “high” and “very high” mineral potential.”
“We’ve already seen that Labor is prepared to shut down forestry in order to appease the Greens, now it’s clear that mining will be sacrificed too. The Premier must immediately rule out proceeding with the proposed World Heritage lockup.” Mr. Brooks said.
