BRUMBIES TO TAKE ON FORCE IN DARWIN

Victor P Taffa

Rugby union fans can anticipate an action-packed game when the University of Canberra Brumbies take on the Western Force in Darwin next month, Minister for Sport and Recreation, Matt Conlan, said today.

“The trial game is the third and final match of a three-year deal with the Brumbies which has seen them play in Darwin annually since 2011.”

“The Brumbies’ commitment to the Northern Territory community expands off the field, with plans to travel to Gove, Katherine and Alice Springs.” Mr. Conlan said.

“Players will also undertake visits to several Darwin schools, the hospital and detention centre.”

“The Brumbies’ visit is a great opportunity for the community to meet and greet high-profile union players.”

“It is important for the community to experience the benefits of bringing large sporting events to the Territory.” Mr. Conlan said.

“Previous years have seen the Brumbies take on the Queensland Reds in 2011 and the Western Force in 2012.”

“Last year’s game attracted a crowd of nearly 2800, with the 2011 event drawing nearly 5000 fans.” Mr. Conlan said.

The match will be played on 1st February at Rugby Park and will kick-off at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be purchased from the Darwin Entertainment Centre via http://www.yourcentre.com.au/ or the box office (08) 8980 3333.
