The Chairman of the NSW Nationals, Christine Ferguson today paid tribute to State Member for Orange, Russell Turner MP, who has announced that he will not be contesting the 2011 State Election.

“Russell served on Orange City Council before being elected to Parliament in 1996, so has been fighting hard for the region for many more than the 14 years since becoming the Member for Orange.” Mrs. Ferguson said.

“Having moved his family from Sydney to Orange, Russell has been a strong advocate for the lifestyle that regional NSW has to offer; a belief firmly shared by The Nationals.”

“Russell has never been afraid to stand up for what he believes in or to put the needs of the people of his electorate first, and the courage of his convictions has made him an extremely effective and successful local member.”

“On behalf of The Nationals, I thank Russell for his dedication and hard work.”

“Life in politics is difficult and often there are sacrifices that must be made by a Member’s family, so I would like to thank Russell’s wife Diane for her good grace and support over the past 14 years, and that of their children’ as well.”

“We wish them all the best for the future.” Mrs. Ferguson said.

State Director, Ben Franklin said that nominations for preselection for the seat of Orange would open shortly and anyone interested in nominating should contact Head Office on (02) 9299 5811.
